Why this month

Why KC is in focus

KC represents a timely conversation in independent music: how an artist can combine human direction, AI-assisted production, a live band and a wider creative team without hiding the process. With Ghana–Benin roots, bilingual influences, a growing catalogue and the latest album now live across DSPs, KC reflects a new kind of artist-led ecosystem in which the website, streaming platforms, technology and live performance all work together.

KC is built around a simple idea: the artist identity and the system behind the music should be visible together.

Within KC, KAJJÉ comes from the artist’s full name and represents the creative voice at the center. COLLECTIVE represents the wider structure that helps bring the music to life: AI-assisted production tools, the live band, collaborators and the team behind the project. The result is an artist-led hybrid music model that combines songwriting, technology and live performance without pretending they are separate worlds.

That approach also shapes how KC thinks about distribution. Social platforms can introduce a song, but the music itself is designed to travel further. The latest album is now live across DSPs, while kajjecollective.com serves as the main home where listeners can stream, explore the catalogue and understand the wider KC story.

For this Monthly Spotlight, Wisko Media speaks with KC about identity, transparency around AI, West African roots, the role of the Collective, the latest album and what listeners should expect from the next stage of the project.

“KAJJÉ is the artist identity. COLLECTIVE is the AI, the band and the team behind it. Together, fans can simply call us KC.”

The interview

In conversation with KC

WMFor readers discovering KC for the first time, what do KAJJÉ and COLLECTIVE mean?

KAJJÉ comes from my full name and became the artist identity at the center of the project. COLLECTIVE represents everything that helps bring the music to life around that identity — the AI tools used in the production process, the live band, collaborators and the wider team behind the project. Together, KAJJÉ & Collective is not just one person standing alone; it is an artist-led creative system. For fans, the preferred short name is simply KC.

WMBeyond making music, what is the main mission behind KC?

One reason KC matters to me is that so much music today can be difficult to enjoy around children because of explicit language, sexual imagery and some music videos. I have a four-year-old son, and I know personally how difficult it can be to let music or YouTube play for a long time without worrying about what may come next. KC cannot change everything, but we can do our part. I want children and families to have another choice when they go online — good music they can enjoy without that concern. That is also why KC is not only about saying, “Stream my music so I can make money.” We make the projects available to listen to free on kajjecollective.com as well. For me, building something positive for this generation and the next one is part of the mission.

WMHow do your Ghana–Benin roots influence KC?

They influence the rhythm, the way I hear melody, the languages I move between and the emotional way I approach storytelling. I grew up around different West African sounds and cultures, so I do not think of genres as walls. I am comfortable letting Afro-pop, R&B, gospel, dance music and other influences meet as long as the song still feels honest.

WMYour motto is “Find your frequency.” What does that mean?

For me, frequency is about finding the place where your identity, your emotions and your sound meet. We are surrounded by noise, trends and pressure to sound like what is already working. “Find your frequency” is a reminder to listen deeper and discover the sound, purpose and energy that are truly yours.

WMYou are open about using AI-assisted tools in KC. What role does AI actually play?

AI is part of the Collective because it is one of the tools helping the project move from an idea to a finished production. I use it to explore arrangements, textures and possibilities, but it does not replace the creative direction. The concept, writing choices, emotional intention, selection and final identity still need a human point of view. That is why I describe the process as hybrid music production.

WMWhy is transparency about AI important to you?

Trust matters. I would rather explain how KC works than hide part of the process. Music has always changed with technology. For me, the important question is whether the artist still has a clear intention, makes the creative decisions and is honest with the audience about how the work is being made.

WMThe latest KC album, MATURITY 1, is now live across DSPs. Why MATURITY 1, and what should listeners take from it?

MATURITY 1 is about growth, reflection and becoming more intentional. I want listeners to hear a project with a stronger identity — music that moves through different moods but still feels connected. The “1” means this is one stage of that growth, not the end of it. I hope people find something in the album that connects with their own journey. MATURITY 1 is available across the major DSPs, and listeners can also explore KC directly at kajjecollective.com.

WMFor someone who discovers one KC song today, where should they go next?

The easiest path is to stream and follow KC on their preferred DSP, then visit kajjecollective.com. The website is the main home of the project, so people can discover more music, understand the story behind KC and follow what is coming next. Social platforms help people notice the music, but the KC website gives the project a place where everything connects.

WMWhere does live performance fit into the future of KC?

Live performance is very important because that is where the Collective can fully become physical. I love the energy of live bands and musicians responding to each other. The long-term goal is for the songs to work beyond the studio and become performances where people can actually feel the frequency together.

WMWhen someone leaves a KC song or performance, what do you hope stays with them?

I hope a feeling stays first — something honest enough to remain after the song ends. If the music also encourages someone to be more comfortable with who they are, to think, to move, or simply to reconnect with themselves, then KC has done something meaningful.
